Lions Go 3-0 at Brewton Parker!

Mount Vernon, GA – The Emmanuel University Flag Football team opened their season at Brewton-Parker Christian College on Saturday with games against Andrew College, LaGrange College and host, Brewton-Parker.

LIONS 35, ANDREW 0
The Lions opened up their day with a game against Andrew College. Emmanuel took an early lead on a pick six from Gwen Carter with 11:00 on the clock to give the Lions a 7-0 lead. 

In the 2nd quarter, the Lions drive began with 11:10 on the clock and following a pass from Lillian Stephenson to Gianna Brown for 16 yards it was Carter again with the score on a 10 yard rush to give the Lions a 14-0 lead. In their third drive of the game, Stephenson found Brown for a 9-yard score to make it 21-0, Lions. 

After the break, the Lions kept the momentum going. Stephenson found Brown in the Lions second drive of the quarter for a 42-yard dart to make the score 28-0.  

The Lions started off the fourth quarter with a pass to Sydne Stoker for 16 years, with Stephenson following that up by taking the ball in herself for a 2-yard score to make the final score, 35-0 Lions. 

Lillian Stephenson ended the game 10-14 for 103 yards passing. She threw for 2 touchdowns with a rushing touchdown. Gwen Carter led the Lions in rushing with 10 yards, while Gianna Brown led the way receiving with 5 receptions for 70 yards and two scores.

Defensively, the Lions were led by Brown with 7 total flag pulls, 5 solo, and 2 assists. 

LIONS 16, LAGRANGE 9

Next, the Lions faced the LaGrange College Pouncers. 

Neither team could get a drive together in the first quarter, leaving the score knotted at 0-0.

In the 2nd, the Lions wasted no time finding the endzone with a one-yard pass from Lillian Stephenson to Gianna Brown to give the Lions a 7-0 lead. The Pouncers answered back with a touchdown with 20 seconds left on the clock in the 2nd quarter to make it 7-6, Lions heading into the break.

After a scoreless 3rd quarter, the Lions added to their lead on 1-yard score from Elzie Baker to make it 14-6. A minute later, Jamiese Spivey picked off Gracie Scott, returning  the interception 16 yards for the score, giving the Lions a 19-6 lead which would be the final score.

The Lions ended the game with 158 yards of offense and 7 first downs. Lillian Stephenson completed 14 of 31 passes for 117 yards and 2 touchdowns. Sydne Stoker led the Lions in rushing with 10 yards, and Gianna Brown had 6 catches for 91 yards and a score. 

On the defensive end, Shayne Cooper-Riley and Jamiese Spivey led the way with 3 solo flag pulls. Spivey and Cailyn Robinson each caught an interception in the game. 

LIONS 6, BREWTON PARKER 2

The Lions closed out the day with a game against host, Brewton-Parker. 

It was a defensive battle from the beginning with both teams threatening to score on the offensive end, but no points scored.

To end out the third quarter, the Barons sacked Lillian Stephson for 66 yards to earn the safety, taking the 2-0 lead. 

With 28 seconds to play in the 4th quarter, Stephenson found Gwen Carter for a 24-yard score to take the 6-2 lead to close out the game with a win! 

The Lions ended the game with 181 yards and 8 first downs. Lillian Stephenson had 19 completions on the night out of 39 attempts, throwing for 183 yards and a touchdown. Sydne Stoker rushed for 6 yards n the game, with Gianna Brown ending the game with 7 receptions for 69 yards. 

On the defensive end, Brown ended the day with 5 flag pulls with Jamiese Spivey adding 4. 

The Lions will be back in action on February 19 with a matchup against Thomas University at Stephens Field with kickoff at 5:30PM.
