Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Baseball team hosted Middle Georgia State University this afternoon for a midweek match up. The Knights jumped out to an early lead in the 1st inning and added to their lead in the 5
th, 6
th and 8
th inning to earn a 6-0 win.
In the top of the 1
st, the Knights opened the game scoring a run on 2 hits to take a 1-0 lead.
The Lions threatened in the bottom of the 2
nd, getting runners on 1
st and 2
nd, but a sacrifice fly ended the at-bat with no runs scored.
The Knights added a run to their lead in the top of the 5
th on 2 hits to make the score, 2-0 Middle Georgia.
Haidyn McGill walked to start off the Lions at-bat in the bottom half of the inning. He advanced to 3
rd on a wild pitch, but the Knights got out of the inning with no damage done.
In the top of the 6
th, Middle Georgia State added a run on a hit to take a 3-0 lead.
The score stayed the same until the top of the 8
th, when the Knights tacked on 3 runs on 3 hits.
The Lions threatened in the bottom of the 8
th and 9
th, leaving 5 runners stranded in the two innings, to make the final score 6-0, Knights.
At the plate, four Lions picked up a hit.
On the mound,
Lucas Meehan got the start, going 1.0 inning and giving up a run on 2 hits, striking out a batter.
Blake Altschuler relieved him to throw 3.0 innings. He gave up a run on 6 hits, walking 3 batters and striking out 3.
Joseph Rice came in next to throw an inning. He gave up a hit and struck out a batter.
Zackary Easton relieved him to pitch 1.1 inning. He gave up a run on a hit and walked a batter.
Luke Hopper pitched 1.1 inning, giving up 3 runs on 2 hits and walking a batter.
Zach Evans came in next to face 3 batters. He gave up a hit and walked a batter.
Matthew Delarber closed out the game, pitching an inning and giving up a hit, striking out a batter.
The Lions will travel to Rome, GA to face Shorter University this weekend in a conference series. The first game on Friday will begin at 12PM with a doubleheader following on Saturday at 12 & 3PM.
