Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Lacrosse team hosted #5 ranked Anderson University this afternoon in regional play. The Trojans got on the board first, but the Lions battled to keep things interesting. The Trojans closed out the first half on a 15-3 scoring run to make it 19-5 at the half. The Lions put up a fight in the 2
nd half, but the Trojans came away with a 27-11 victory.
The Trojans got on the board first to take a 1-0 lead, but a goal by
Erik Lichtner, assisted by
Devin Gardner tied the game at 1-1 early in the first. The Trojans would score the next two to make it 3-1, but
Ryley Dowswell answered, assisted by
Ryland Laturell to cut the lead to 3-2 with 10:53 to play in the 1
st. Anderson would respond with a 6-0 run to take a 9-2 lead, but
Everett Muratori found the net with 5:40 to play in the period to make it 9-3, Trojans. The Trojans closed the period on a 3-0 run to make it 12-3 heading into the 2
nd.
Lichtner found the net for his 2
nd time of the day, assisted by Laturell to cut the Anderson lead to 12-4. Anderson responded to push their lead to 13-4, but
Braden Weeks answered with a goal, assisted by Laturell to make the score 13-5, Anderson with 12:42 to play before the half. The Trojans scored the next six goals to go up 19-5 at the halftime break.
Licthner scored for the third time to open the 3
rd period to make it 19-6, Anderson but the Trojans responded to go up 20-6. With 8:46 to play in the 3
rd, Laturell found the net, assisted by Gardner to make it 20-7, Anderson. Anderson scored the next three to push their lead to 23-7, but Gardner scored with 4:06 to play, assisted by Dowswell to cut the lead to 23-8. The Trojans closed out the period with a goal to make it 24-8 heading into the 4
th.
Weeks scored the first goal of the 4
th to make it 24-9. The Trojans scored the next two goals to push their lead to 26-8. The Lions responded with two goals, one by Garnder (assisted by Laturell) and the other by Muratori (assisted by Laturell) to make it 26-11, but the Trojans closed the game with a goal to make the final score 27-11.
Erik Lichtner led the Lions with 3 goals on the day, with
Braden Weeks,
Everett Muratori and
Devin Gardner each adding 2.
Ryland Laturell led the Lions in assists with 4.
In goal,
Nick Pilon and
Grady Magruder split time with Magruder leading the way with 16 saves.
Next up, the Lions will travel to Mount Olive, NC to face the University of Mount Olive Trojans at 2PM on March 21.
