Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Flag Football team hosted Mars Hill this afternoon in conference action. The Lions jumped out ahead early, taking a 21-6 lead into halftime. The Lions continued to control the pace of the game, outscoring the Mars Hill Lions 21-6 in the 2
nd half to earn the 42-12 win. With the win, the Lions improve to 6-4 on the season.
The Lions got on the board early in the 1
st quarter with a 20-yard touchdown pass from
Lillian Stephenson to
Shayne Cooper-Riley to give the Lions the 6-0 lead. The Lions kept their foot on the gas pedal with a 49-yard touchdown pass from Stephenson to
Elzie Baker to make it 12-0, Lions.
The Lions took a 19-0 lead early in the 2
nd quarter, but the Mars Hill Lions responded with a late touchdown to make it 21-6, Emmanuel Lions at the half.
After the break, the Emmanuel Lions picked up where they left off with an 11-yard touchdown from Stephenson to
DaMoijah Flowers to put the Lions up 27-6.
In the fourth quarter, Stephenson found
Gianna Brown for a 3-yard score to make it 33-12, Emmanuel. The Lions tacked on one last score in the 4
th to make the final 42-12.
Lillian Stephenson was 30-48 on the day for 376 yards. She threw 6 touchdowns and an interception.
Gianna Brown led the Lions with 6 receptions for 80 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Elzie Baker added 3 receptoins for 73 yards and a score, while
Sydne Stoker picked up 72 yards and a score on 9 catches.
Defensively,
Jamiese Spivey had 8 flag pulls and 2 passes broken up, with
DaMoijah Flowers adding 7.
Shayne Cooper-Riley broke up 3 passes.
Next up, the Lions will face Ferrum College and Mount St.Marys in conference play on March 21.
