ROME, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team continued their season tonight with a 2
nd round Conference Carolinas Championship matchup against #4 seed, Shorter University. The Hawks jumped out to an early lead, with the Lions trailing 30-16 at the half. The Lions responded behind a strong finish from
Natalee Goff, but fell to the Hawks ending their season, 59-40.
The Hawks came out strong in the first quarter of play, jumping out to a 6-0 lead.
Naomi Roberts responded with a 3-pointer to cut the Hawks lead to 6-3 early. Roberts hit another three pointer with 2:51 to play in the first to cut the Hawks lead to 9-6, but Shorer responded with a 8-0 run to take a 17-6 lead heading into the 2
nd.
The Hawks pushed their lead to 27-10 early in the 2
nd quarter. The Lions responded with points from Roberts and a jumper by
Kate Jackson to close out the 2
nd quarter with the Hawks up 30-16. Roberts led the Lions with 14 points in the 1
st half of play.
Jackson opened up the 3
rd quarter with a jumper and
Natalee Goff connected on two free-throws to make it 37-20, Hawks with 5:53 to play in the 3
rd.
Julie Azeltine connected on a three-pointer and jumper late in the quarter to give the Hawks a 48-28 lead heading into the 4
th quarter.
Azeltine connected from beyond the arc to start off the 4
th and a layup by Goff put the Lions within 15 of the lead, 48-33. The teams traded points the rest of the way, with
Natalee Goff scoring 8 of her 12 points in the final quarter. The Hawks won the game 59-40 to move onto the Conference Carolinas quarterfinals on Friday.
Naomi Roberts led the Lions with 14 points, 3 assists, and 3 blocks on the night.
Natalee Goff added 12 points and 2 steals, with
Kate Jackson leading the team in rebounds (13) and steals (3).
