Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Lacrosse hosted Converse University this morning in conference action. The Lions jumped out to an early lead to go into the halftime break up 12-4. The Valkyries outscored the Lions 5-1 in the fourth period to make a run, but the Lions earned the win, 15-10. With the win, the Lions improve to 5-5 on the season, 2-1 in conference play.
Olivia Wallach opened the scoring with a goal at the 13:31 mark in the first period and
Mikaela Austin found the net 15 seconds later to put the Lions up 2-0 early in the first. The Valkyries answered to make it 2-1, Lions but Emmanuel responded with a 4-0 scoring run. Austin made it 3-1, Lions with 12:19 to play in the 1
st then
Demi Czynski scored back-to-back goals, with one assisted by
Taylor Schubert to put the Lions up 5-1 with 7:17 to play in the 1
st.
Kristie Fisher made it 6-1, Lions with 6:25 to play in the period. Converse responded to make it 6-2, but the Lions closed out the first with a goal from Paetyn Hoffman to make it 7-2, Lions after the first.
Converse scored the first two goals of the 2
nd period to pull within three goals of the lead, 7-4 but the Lions closed out period on a 5-0 scoring run. Fisher was first to find the net to make it 8-4 with 9:49 to go in the 2
nd.
Meghan Jennings was next to score, pushing the Lions lead to 9-4. Thirty seconds later, Wallach scored her second goal of the day, giving the Lions a 10-4 lead. Czynski closed out the 2
nd period with back-to-back goals, one assisted by Jennings to give the Lions the 12-4 lead heading into halftime.
In the third,
Taylor Schubert tacked on another goal for the home team, making it 13-4 with 7:24 to play in the period. Fisher scored her third of the day with 4:58 to play in the period, pushing the Lions lead to 14-4. The Valkyries scored to make it 14-5 to close out the period.
Converse opened the 4
th period on a 2-0 run to cut the Lions lead to 14-7. The Lions answered with a goal from Wallach, assisted by Fisher to make it 15-7, Lions with 8:22 to play. The Valkyries closed out the game on a 3-0 run to make the final score, 15-10 Lions.
Demi Czynski led all scorers with 4 goals on the day, with
Kristie Fisher and
Olivia Wallach adding 3 goals apiece. Three Lions picked up an assist on the day.
Avery Atkins and
Emily Dawson combined for 10 saves in goal, with Atkins collecting 6 saves.
Next up, the Lions will travel to Central, SC to face Southern Wesleyan University on Wednesday at 5PM.
