Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball team hosted Life University today in non-conference action. The Lions jumped out ahead, taking the first set 25-20 before the Eagles responded to take the second set, 26-24. The Lions answered to close the game out strong, earning the wins in set three and four, 25-21, 25-22 to seal the 3-1 win. With the win, the Lions improve to 6-10 on the season.;
The Lions jumped out to a 4-0 lead on a kill by
Elek Cumming and attack errors by the Eagles. Kills by
Matthieu Bataille and
Aidan Feeney quickly made it 6-1 Lions. Midway through the set, the Eagles trailed the Lions 14-10, but attack errors by Life and a kill from
Greg Bodus quickly made it 18-12, Lions. Life responded well to pull within two points of the lead, 19-17 but the Lions closed the set strong, scoring on kills by Cumming and Feeney, along with an ace by
Bryan Povea to take the set, 25-20.
In set two, the Eagles answered back. Life jumped ahead 6-1 early in the set but kills by Feeney and
Luke Wilson helped the Lions pull within three points, 10-7. Both teams had scoring runs, and midway through the set with the Eagles up 15-10, Emmanuel responded with a 4-0 run made up of kills by Cumming and an ace by Feeney to cut the Eagles lead to 16-15. The Lions would tie the set at 17-17 on an attack error. The two teams would trade points and the lead until late, when the Eagles scored the final two points to earn the 26-24 win in the 2nd set.
The teams traded points early in the 3rd, with the Eagles jumping out to an 6-3 lead. Kills by Wilson and Feeney put the Lions out in front, 12-9 and a kill by Bataille made it 13-10. Midway through the set, kills by Wilson and Cumming put the Lions up 18-14 but the Eagles responded to pull within two points, 19-17. The Lions closed out the set strong with kills by Cumming, Feeney and Povea to take the set, 25-21.
The fourth set saw Life take an early 3-0 lead, but the Lions answered to tie things at 6-6. Kills by Cumming, Feeney and Bataille made it 11-9 Lions, but the Eagles responded to pull within two, 19-17 late in the set. The Lions pulled ahead 21-17, but the Eagles scored the next three points to pull within a point, 21-20. The Lions closed out the set with a kill by Wilson to give the Lions the 25- 22 win and take the game, 3-1.
Overall, the Lions had 56 kills, 3 aces, 13 blocks, 52 assists and 48 digs.
Aidan Feeney led the way with 23 kills, with
Elek Cumming (14( and
Luke Wilson (10) rounding out the top scorers.
Bryan Povea, Feeney and
Greg Bodus all three earned an ace, while three Lions had 6 blocks a piece.
Greg Bodus led the team in assists with 46, with
Josh Staehler adding 18 digs.
