DUE WEST, SC – The Emmanuel Softball team traveled to Due West, SC today for a conference doubleheader against the Erskine College Flying Fleet. The Fleet took the early lead, scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 3
rd, but the Lions responded well to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the 5
th. Erskine answered with a 5 run 6
th inning to pull away, making the final score, 7-2. In game two, the Fleet earned the 7-1 win.
GAME ONE
Erskine got on the board first in game one, scoring 2 runs on a hit and an error in the bottom of the 3
rd to take a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the 4
th, the Lions got into a jam with the Fleet loading the bases, but
Addison Hendrix relieved
Autumn Matherly to get the final out, keeping the score 2-0 Erskine.
The Lions bats got going in the top of the 5
th.
Jacie McCall started off the inning with a double to left field and
Shelby Rinefierd followed that up with a single to left.
Lenox Roberts came into pinch run for Rinefierd and
Kelsey Lester reached 1
st on an error, with a run scoring to cut the Erskine lead to 2-1.
Dezarea Hillery reached on an error and
Vic Epps hit into a fielder's choice, with
Lenox Roberts getting thrown out at home.
Arlie Gooden kept the inning going, hitting a single to centerfield to score Lester, tying the game at 2-2. Hendrix worked out of some trouble in the bottom half of the inning, hitting two batters but a pop up ended the at-bat with the score still tied, 2-2.
The Flying Fleet pulled away in the bottom of the 6
th, scoring 5 runs on 4 hits to take the 7-2 lead.
Gillian Price singled in the top of the 7
th, but the Lions couldn't get a run across, and the Flying Fleet took game one, 7-2.

Jacie McCall went 2-3 with a double.

Autumn Matherly got the nod going 3.2 innings. She gave up 2 runs on a hit and walked 5 batters.
Addison Hendrix closed the game, pitching the final 2.1 innings. She gave up 5 runs on 4 hits, walking 4 batters and striking out one.
GAME TWO
The Flying Fleet took the early lead in game two, scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 1
st on 4 hits.
Two Lions hit into a fielder's choice in the top of the 2
nd, with no runs scoring to keep the score, 2-0 Erskine. In the bottom half of the inning, the Flying Fleet tacked on a run on three hits to take a 3-0 lead.
Eliana Cooper hit a one-out single through the left side to get things going for the Lions in the top of the 3
rd.
Gillian Price followed that up, hitting into a fielder's choice, with Cooper advancing to 2
nd. Cooper was thrown out at 3
rd on a fielder's choice to end the at bat, with the Flying Fleet up 3-0. In the bottom of the 3
rd, Erskine scored 2 runs on 3 hits to push their lead to 5-0.
Jacie McCall and
Kaylee Purvis both walked in the top of the 4
th to get the Lions in scoring position, but a pop-up ended the at bat. The Flying Fleet picked up 2 runs on 4 hits in the bottom of the 4
th to go ahead, 7-0.
After a scoreless 5
th, the Lions got two runners onboard in the top of the 6
th with a walk to
Carson Stowe and a single by
Shelby Rinefierd to right center, but a line drive ended the at-bat with the Flying Fleet up 7-0.
In the top of the 7
th, the Lions got on the board.
Dezarea Hillery was hit by a pitch to start things off, but Cooper hit into a double play.
Gillian Price singled to left field and
Arlie Gooden followed that up with a single of her own through the right side to advance Price to 2
nd. After a walk to Passmore loaded the bases,
Carson Stowe walked to score Price, cutting the Fleet's lead to 7-1 which would be the final score.
At the plate, four Lions picked up a hit with
Carson Stowe adding an RBI.
In the circle,
Reagan Beagle got the start going 2.2 innings. She gave up 5 runs on 10 hits. She walked 3 batters and struck out 1.
Quinn Overby relieved her to throw 3.1 innings. She gave up 2 runs on 4 hits, walking a batter and striking out a batter.
The Lions will be back in action on Sunday with a doubleheader in Greenville, TN against Tusculum at 1 & 3PM
