Banner Elk, NC – The Emmanuel Women's Lacrosse team traveled to Banner Elk, NC to face Lees McRae College in conference action. The Lions jumped out ahead early, taking a 11-2 lead into the halftime break. The Lions continued to pour on the points, outscoring the Bobcats 7-4 in the second half to earn the 18-6 win to improve to 7-7 on the season, 4-3 in conference action.
The Bobcats opened the scoring to take an early 1-0 lead, but the Lions answered quickly with a 3-0 run.
Meghan Jennings got the Lions on the board, assisted by
Olivia Wallach to tie the game at 1-1 with 7:34 to play in the 1
st.
Demi Czynski found the net a minute later, assisted by
Taylor Schubert to give the Lions a 2-1 lead. Wallach scored her first of 7 on the day with 4:22 to play in the period, assisted by Paeyton Hoffman to close the period with the Lions leading 3-1.
The 2
nd period started with a goal by the Bobcats to cut the Lions lead to 3-2, but the Lions roared back outscoring the Bobcats 8-0 to close out the period. Schubert found the net, assisted by Wallach to push the Lions ahead, 4-2 with 13:22 to play in the 2
nd. Lexie Lee was next to score, finding the net twice in two minutes to make it 6-2, Lions with 9:44 to play. Jennings scored her 2
nd goal of the day with 6:29 on the clock, assisted by Wallach to make it 7-2, Lions. Wallach then scored her 2
nd of the day with 4:09 to play in the 2
nd, assisted by Schubert to push the Lions ahead, 8-2. Jennings made it 9-2, assisted by Schubert with under 4 minute to play until half, and Wallach grabbed her third of the day to push the Lions ahead, 10-2. Lee scored her third of the afternoon to close out the half with the Lions leading, 11-2.
The Bobcats opened up the scoring in the 3rd to make it 11-3, but the Lions answered with a goal by Jennings, assisted by Wallach to put the Lions up 12-3. The Lions kept the momentum with goals by Czynski and Mikaelsa Austin, both assisted by Hoffman to give the Lions a 14-3 lead. The Bobcats closed the period with a goal to make it 14-4 heading into the 4
th.
Lees McRae opened up the scoring in the 4
th quarter to cut the Lions lead to 14-5. Wallach responded with a goal at the 13:05 mark to pull ahead, 15-5. After the Bobcats scored to make it 15-6, Wallach scored the final three goals of the game, with two assisted by Jennings to make the final score, 18-6.
Olivia Wallach led the team with a career high, 7 goals. She also picked up 4 assists.
Meghan Jennings added 4 goals on the night, while
Taylor Schubert also had 4 assists.
Avery Atkins and
Emily Dawson combined for 11 saves in goal, with Dawson grabbing 6.
