BRISTOL, TN – The Emmanuel Softball team traveled to Bristol, TN to face King University in conference action. The Tornado took an early 5-0 lead, but the Lions answered with a run in the 2
nd and 3
rd to make the final score, 5-2.. King carried the momentum into game two where they took the game, 8-0.
GAME ONE
The Lions threatened early in game one, getting two runners on base in the top of the 1
st with
Ciara Passmore lacing a double to left and
Carson Stowe collecting a walk, but a strike out ended the at-bat. In the bottom half of the inning, the Tornado scored 5 runs on 5 hits to take a 5-0 lead.
Jacie McCall reached first on an error to lead things off for the Lions in the top of the 2
nd, and
Shelby Rinefierd followed that up with a double to centerfield to advance McCall to third. A sacrifice fly scored McCall to put the Lions on the board, 5-1.
Ciara Passmore reached on an error by the shortstop to start the 3
rd inning and stole 2
nd. On a groundout, Passmore advanced to 3
rd and scored to cut the Tornado lead to 5-2.
After a scoreless 4
th and 5
th, the Lions threatened in the top of the 6
th.
Ashley Fountain doubled to left center to lead off the inning and
Kelsey Lester walked to put runners on 1
st and 2
nd but a pop up ended the at-bat, with the Lions trailing 5-2.
The Lions threatened again in the top of the 7
th, with Passmore picking up her second hit of the day and
Arlie Gooden walking, but a strikeout ended the game, with King earning the 5-2 win
.
At the plate,
Ciara Passmore went 2-4 with a run scored.
Autumn Matherly was in the circle for the Lions, throwing 6.0 innings and giving up 5 runs on 8 hits. She walked a batter and struck out a batter.
GAME TWO
The Tornado got on the board early in game two, scoring 3 runs on 4 hits and an error in the bottom of the 1
stto take the 3-0 lead.
The Lions threatened in the top of the 3
rd, with
Eliana Cooper and
Shelby Rinefierd picking up singles, but a strikeout ended the at bat with the Lions trailing 3-0.
After a scoreless 4
th, the Tornado added 5 runs on 4 hits and an error in the bottom of the 5
th, taking an 8-0 lead which would be the final score.
At the plate, three Lions collected a hit.
In the circle,
Reagan Beagle got the start going 4.1 innings. She gave up 6 runs on 10 hits and struck out 3 batters.
Quinn Overby relieved her to face 4 batters, giving up 2 runs on 2 hits.
Next up the Lions will travel to Belmont, NC to face Belmont Abbey College on Friday at 1 & 3PM.
