MILLEDGEVILLE, GA – The Emmanuel Baseball team traveled to Milledgeville, GA this afternoon to face Georgia College & State University in non-conference play. The Bobcats took the 4-0 lead in the 3rd inning and scored in each of the final five innings to earn a 12-2 victory.
Two batters walked for the Lions to open up the game, but a double play ended the at-bat.
Griffin Morris started on the mound for the Lions and sat the Bobcats down in order to keep the game scoreless heading into the 2
nd.
Morris got out of a jam in the bottom of the 2
nd, giving up a walk and a hit by pitch, but struck out the final batter to keep the game knotted at 0-0.
The Lions picked up two singles in the top of the 3
rd, with
Seth Ranta and
Jaden Madrid getting on base, but a double play ended the at-bat. In the bottom of the 3
rd, the Bobcats took the lead scoring 4 runs on 3 hits to make it 4-0.
The Lions answered well in the top of the 4
th. Two walks and a hit batter loaded the bases early and a sacrifice fly to left field scored a run to make it, 4-1 Bobcats. Georgia College added a run to their lead in the bottom of the 4
th on 2 hits, pushing the score to 5-1.
The Lions responded in the top of the 5
th.
Nick Madrigal started things off with a 2-out single to right center. After
Tyler Bradford was hit by a pitch,
Matt Layton singled to left center to score
Stephen Clark (pinch runner) to cut the Bobcats lead to 5-2. In the bottom of the 5
th, Georgia College tacked on two runs to take a 7-2 lead.
The Bobcats made it 10-2 in the bottom of the 6
th, scoring 3 runs on 3 hits and an error.
Georgia College scored a run on two hits in the bottom of the 7
th to make the final score, 12-2.
At the plate, five Lions picked up a hit, with
Matt Layton and
Will Phipps adding an RBI each.
On the mound,
Griffin Morris got the start going 2.0 innings. He gave up a run and struck out 2 batters, walking 1.
Blake Altschuler relieved him to throw 2.0 innings. He gave up 4 runs on 5 hits and struck out a batter, walking 2.
Zackary Easton was next on the mound, going an inning and giving up 3 runs on 2 hits. He struck out 2 batters and walked one.
Jacob Bodkin relieved him to throw an inning, giving up 3 runs on 3 hits.
Lucas Meehan closed out the game, facing 5 batters and giving up a run on 2 hits.
Next up, the Lions will close out the regular season with a three-game series against top ranked North Greenville University. First pitch is set for Friday at 3:30PM, with a senior day doubleheader following on Saturday at 12PM.
