Franklin Springs, GA- The Emmanuel Women's Lacrosse team hosted North Greenville University tonight in conference action. The teams traded points and the lead early, with the Trailblazers taking a 7-4 advantage into the halftime break. The Trailblazers added to their lead in the seconds half to pull ahead 14-8, but the Lions scored 5 of the final 6 goals to make it interesting. The Trailblazers took home the win, 15-13.
The Trailblazers opened the scoring, taking a 1-0 lead early in the first period. The Lions answered with a score by
Mikaela Austin to tie the game at 1-1, with 11:34 to play in the first. NGU made it 2-1 midway through the first, but
Taylor Schubert responded with a goal, assisted by
Kristie Fisher with 4:00 to play in the first to make it 2-2. Less than a minute later, North Greenville retook the lead, 3-2 but
Olivia Wallach evened the score at 3-3, assisted by Paetyn Hoffman to close out the period.
In the 2
nd, the Trailblazers opened the period with a 3—0 run to take the 6-3 lead. With 2:14 to play in the 2
nd,
Meghan Jennings found the net to cut the Trailblazers lead to 6-4. The Trailblazers tacked on a goal to end the half, leading 7-4.
The Lions opened the 3
rd period strong with goals by Hoffman and Jennings to cut the Trailblazers lead to 7-6 with 13:27 to play in the period. North Greenville made it 8-6 with 12:42 to play in the 3
rd, but the Lions answered with goals by Austin and Schubert to tie the game at 8-8 with 3:12 to play in the 3
rd. North Greenville closed the period on a 3-0 run to take the 11-8 lead heading into the 4
th.
The Trailblazers continued their scoring run in the 4
th, pushing their lead to 14-8 but Lexie Lee answered, assisted by Schubert to get the Lions back on the board, trailing 14-9 with 6:50 to play. North Greenville added a score to pull ahead 15-9, but the Lions rallied back. Wallach scored back-to-back goals, with one assisted by Jennings to cut the Trailblazers lead to 15-11, with 4:10 to play. Wallach scored her third in a row at the 3:30 mark, to pull three points of the lead, 15-12 and
Demi Czynski scored the final goal of the game with 0:47 to play to make the final score, 15-13 North Greenville.
Olivia Wallach led the Lions with 4 goals, with
Mikaela Austin,
Taylor Schubert, and
Meghan Jennings adding 2 each. Four Lions picked up an assist.
Emily Dawson and
Avery Atkins combined for 9 saves in goal, with Atkins leading the way with 5 saves.
Next up, the Lions will travel to Banner Elk, NC to face Lees McRae College on Saturday at 3PM.
