MORROW, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Soccer team continued their road series with a matchup against the Clayton State Lakers this afternoon. The Lakers opened up the scoring early, taking a 1-0 lead into the halftime break. The home team continued to control the pace of the game in the second half, tacking on three goals to earn the 4-0 victory. With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-2 on the early season.
After a defensive battle in the first 10 minutes of play, the Lakers got on the board in the 12
th minute to take the 1-0 lead. The Lakers outshot the Lions 6-5 in the first half, with 3 shots on goal. Emmanuel goalkeeper, Ana Ramirez-Cortes had 2 saves in the first half, surpassing the 100 career saves mark as a Lion.
The 2
nd half saw the Lakers push their lead to 2-0 in the 60
th minute. Late in the half, Clayton State added two goals to their lead to make the final score, 4-0. In the 2
nd, the Lakers outshot the Lions 7-1, with Ramirez-Cortes adding 4 saves to her tally to bring her total to 6 on the afternoon.
Ava Bushby and
Jillian Aldrich led the offensive effort for the Lions, with Aldrich taking 2 shots on goal.
Next up, the Lions will travel to Cochran, GA to face Middle Georgia State University on Friday at 4PM.
