FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA- The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball team hosted the University of Mount Olive Trojans this afternoon in conference action. The Lions jumped ahead early, taking the first set 25-21. The home team carried the momentum into set two, winning 25-16 before closing out the game with a 25-19 win in set three to earn the sweep. With the win, the Lions move to 5-5 on the season, 2-1 in conference play.
In set one, the Lions jumped out to a 6-2 lead behind kills from
Cailin Pritchard and
Ellie Jackson. The Trojans closed the gap to 14-13 midway through the set, but attack errors by the Trojans and kills from Jackson,
Natalie Wilson and
Jada Porter pushed the Lions lead to 22-18. A kill by
Brianna Bigelow closed set one strong for the Lions, earning the 25-21 win.
The Lions carried the momentum into the second set, taking an early 8-2 lead on points by Wilson, Pritchard, and aces from
Isabel Miller and
Lilli Redifer. The Trojans responded with a 4-0 run to make it 8-6, but the Lions answered with kills by Jackson and an ace from
Marusa Pesut to make it 17-8. Kills from
Paige Hill and aces from
Lilli Redifer pushed the Lions lead to 21-13, and attack errors from the Trojans gave the Lions the set, 25-16.
Emmanuel opened the 3
rd set with a 9-4lead on an ace from
Madelyn Banton and kills by Jackson and Pritchard. Plays from Pritchard, Jackson, Porter and Bigelow pushed the LIons ahead,15-7 and kills from Wilson and
Riley Ferrell made it 20-11, late. The Trojans answered with a 4-0 run to cut the Lions lead to 20-15, but Emmanuel closed the set on a kill from
Jada Porter to give the Lions the set, 25-19 and the sweep, 3-0.
Overall, the Lions had 39 kills, 8 aces, 11 blocks, 38 assists, and 54 digs.
Ellie Jackson ended the day with a double-double, 14 kills and 11 digs.
Lilli Redifer led the Lions with 3 aces, while
Marusa Pesut picked up 34 assists.
Cailin Pritchard and
Brianna Bigelow had 5 blocks each to lead the team.
Next up, the Lions will face Young Harris on Tuesday at 7PM.
