COCHRAN, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball team traveled to Cochran, GA tonight to face the Middle Georgia State University Knights in non-conference action. The Lions jumped out to an early lead, taking the first set, 25-16. Emmanuel carried the momentum into set two, winning 25-12 and closed out the game with a 25-18 win in set three to earn the sweep. With the win, the Lions move to 8-6 on the season, 4-2 in conference.
The Knights opened up the first set on a 3-0 run, but the Lions settled in, with kills by
Brooke Lee,
Cailin Pritchard and
Brianna Bigelow to take a 7-6 lead. Kills Bigelow,
Jada Porter and
Morgan Broome kept the momentum in the Lions court, pushing the lead to 14-10 midway through the set. In the set, the Lions collected a game high 16 kills while hitting 0.464%. Late in the set, the Lions used a 4-0 run to go up 20-13 and used a service ace from Lee and kills by
Paige Hill and Pritchard to take the first set, 25-16.
The Lions carried the momentum into the 2
nd set, taking an early 10-4 lead on kills by Lee, Pritchard and Broome. Service aces by
Skye Graham and kills by Porter and
Marusa Pesut pushed the Lions lead to 16-6 midway through the set. Late in the set, Broome and Graham finished the set strong to give the Lions the set two win in dominant fashion, 25-12.
The third set saw Emmanuel pull ahead, 6-3 on kills by Porter and Lee. The Knights cut the Lions lead to 11-10, but kills from Hill, Bigelow and an ace from
Isabel Miller pushed the Lions ahead, 17-13. The Knights closed the gap to 22-17, but the Lions closed the set strong to earn the 25-18 win and take the game, 3-0.
Overall, the Lions 43 kills, 6 aces, 5 blocks, 42 assists and 50 digs.
Brooke Lee led the Lions with 9 kills, while
Brianna Bigelow added 7.
Isabel Miller and
Skye Graham each picked up 2 aces from the service line, with
Cailin Pritchard leading the Lions in blocks with 3.
Marusa Pesut led the Lions with 23 assists, while
Abby Dennard added 13.
Isabel Miller led the team in digs with 15.
Next up, the Lions will travel to Ferrum, VA to face the Ferrum College Panthers in conference play on Friday at 7PM.
