Franklin Springs, GA -The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball team hosted Erskine College tonight in conference action. The Lions controlled the pace of the match, sweeping the Flying Fleet in three sets, 25-13, 25-22,25-10. With the win, the Lions improve to 11-6 overall, 7-2 in conference.
Attack errors by Erskine gave the Lions the 7-4 lead early in the first set. A service ace by
Marusa Pesut and kills from
Brianna Bigelow,
Jada Porter, and
Natalie Wilson pushed the Lions lead to 12-6. The Lions continued on a 5-0 run to make the score 17-6 late in the set. The Lions closed the set strong on kills by Wilson, Porter, and
Ellie Jackson to take the first set, 25-13.
The Lions carried their momentum into the 2
nd set, taking an early 5-1 lead on kills by
Cailin Pritchard. Three consecutive aces from Jackson and a kill from Pritchard made it 15-8, Lions midway through the set. Late in the set, Erskine tied the set at 19-19 and took the lead, 20-19 but the Lions answered with kills by Pesut, Pritchard, and
Brooke Lee to earn the set two win, 25-22.Â
The third set saw the Lions take the early 6-1 lead. The Flying Fleet closed the gap to 8-5, but kills by Pesut, Pritchard and
Riley Ferrell made it 15-8, Lions. Emmanuel outscored Erskine 10-2 the rest of the way, with key plays by
Skye Graham,
Emberlynn Lee, and
Maryn Barrow to give the Lions the set, 25-10 and the game, 3-0.
Overall, the Lions had 40 kills, 38 assists, 7 aces, 45 digs, and 9 blocks.
Cailin Pritchard and
Ellie Jackson each had 6 blocks, with Jackson and
Marusa Pesut leading the team in aces with 3 each. Pesut had 29 assists on the night, with
Morgan Broome leading the Lions in blocks with 2.
Isabel Miller ended the night with 16 digs to lead the team.
