Honolulu, HI – The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball team continued their day two action against the University of Hawaii at Hilo Vulcans. The match was competitive from the start, but the Vulcans were able to take the win in three sets, 25-22, 25-19, 25-16. With the loss, the Lions fall to 3-3 on the season.
In the first set, the Vulcans took an early 7-2 lead. A 4-0 run from the Lions made up of kills by
Ellie Jackson,
Jada Porter, and
Natalie Wilson pulled the Lions within two points midway through the set, 14-12. The Lions followed that up with a 5-0 run with two consecutive kills by Jackson to give Emmanuel the lead, 18-16. The Vulcans closed the set on a 6-2 run to earn the win, 25-22.
The second set saw Hawaii Hilo jump ahead 8-3. An ace by Lili Redifer and a kill by Porter put the Lions within three points, 10-7 but the Vulcans responded to pull ahead 14-9. The Lions answered with a 4-1 run, made up of errors by the Vulcans to tie the set at 16-16. Hawaii Hilo answered with a 4-0 run to retake the lead and the Vulcans closed the set on a run to earn the 25-19 win.
The Vulcans carried the momentum into set three, jumping out to a 6-3 lead. The Vulcans continued on a 6-0 run to pull ahead 12-4. The Lions responded with errors by the Vulcans and a kill from
Brooke Lee to make the score 12-7, but Hawaii Hilo went on 6-1 run to go up 18-8. Kills from
Marusa Pesut,
Morgan Broome and
Paige Hill helped the Lions late, but the Vulcans took the set, 25-15 and the game 3-0.
Overall, the Lions had 30 kills, 3 aces, 4 blocks, 28 assists and 33 digs
.
Ellie Jackson led the way with 10 kills, while
Marusa Pesut added 25 assists. Jackson,
Isabel Miller, and Lili Redifer each picked up an ace, with Miller leading the Lions with 12 digs.
Cailin Pritchard and
Natalie Wilson added 2 blocks a piece to lead the team.
Next up, the Lions will take the court against Saint Martin's to close out their time in the Aloha State on September 5
th at 12AM.
