Rob Saghy joins the Emmanuel University Baseball Coaching staff in 2024 working primarily with the infielders and baserunners, while assisting with hitters and catchers. He also spearheads the recruiting efforts alongside Coach Hennessey. Before joining the Emmanuel staff, Saghy spent 2022-2024 coaching at Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.Â
In his two years with Juniata College, Coach Saghy was the lead offensive and defensive coach while maintaining his Recruiting Coordinator duties. In his 2nd season, Juniata amassed 17 wins, most since 2008. During that same year, the team broke the All-Time Single-Season record for Stolen Bases and Strikeouts. In 2024, Juniata placed three players on the 1st Team All-Landmark Team and 1 player on the 2nd Team, good for most in the program’s history.Â
During his first season with the Eagles, Saghy’s offense improved in almost every statistical category, including season bests in Runs, Hits, Doubles, RBIs, Walks, Batting Average, On-Base Percentage, Slugging Percentage, and Stolen Bases since the program joined the Landmark Conference. The 2023 team would also place 2 players on All-Conference teams and 1 player being named to the Division 3 Mid-Atlantic All-Regional 3rd Team (Michael Warren).Â
Prior to his time with Juniata, Saghy spent two seasons at Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas. He was the lead Outfield and Baserunning Coach, while assisting with Hitting, Infield, and Recruiting. During his stint in Ottawa, the Braves had the two best seasons in the program’s history, going to back to back NAIA Regionals, claiming the 2022 KCAC Regular Season Championship and the 2021 KCAC Tournament Championship.Â
During his 2nd season at Ottawa, The 2022 Ottawa team amassed a 43-10 overall record and a 29-4 conference record. That conference record of 29-4 tops the conference record books as the best season in KCAC history. The Braves received votes in the NAIA Polls for the first time in program history, peaking as high as #12 in the country. During the season, they broke school records in Wins, Slugging Percentage, Runs, Doubles, Home Runs, RBIs, Walks, Stolen Bases, ERA, Strikeouts, and Fielding Percentage. That team which included KCAC Player of the Year (Holland Boan) and KCAC Pitcher of the Year (Tyler Bryant) would go on to place 9 players on All-KCAC teams, with 2 KCAC Gold Gloves, and 3 NAIA All-Americans. 4 players from the 2022 roster would go on to play professionally.
In his first season at Ottawa, the Braves would go on a run in the KCAC Tournament claiming the title and earning their first ever bid to the NAIA Opening Round. The 2021 Ottawa team would finish 2-2 in the New Orleans Regional and finish with a final record of 37-20. During that season, Ottawa broke then-program records for Wins, Hits, Home Runs, Walks, Double Plays, and Strikeouts. They placed 7 players on All-KCAC teams, with 1 Gold Glove and 1 NAIA All-American.Â
Saghy grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and attended Upper St. Clair High School. He was a Team Captain and an All-Conference Infielder and Pitcher during his Junior and Senior seasons as a Panther.Â
Saghy then went on to play at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio where he was a member of the 2019 OAC, Regional, and Super Regional Champion team on their way to appearance in the 2019 DIII World Series. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Middle Childhood Education from Heidelberg and a Master’s Degree in Learning Technologies from Ottawa University.
Saghy resides in Comer, GA. His parents, Mike and Kim, live in Kure Beach, NC while his sister, Victoria, and nephew, Beau, live in Virginia Beach, VA.Â
