Tim Starr was appointed head coach of the Emmanuel University men’s soccer program in July 2020 and has since guided the Lions to multiple competitive milestones in Conference Carolinas play.
In Fall 2021, his second season in charge, Starr led a young roster through a demanding schedule, finishing with a 7–15 overall record while refining the team’s tactical structure and evaluating personnel.
In Fall 2022, Emmanuel advanced to the Conference Carolinas semifinals for the first time since 2018. The Lions posted a 6–8–3 overall record and a 5–6–3 conference record, recording multiple victories over higher-seeded opponents in the postseason to secure a place among the league’s final four.
The 2023 season saw further advancement, with the Lions finishing 8–6–3 overall and 6–3–3 in conference play. Highlights included a 4–0 victory over King University on October 11 and a 2–1 overtime win against Belmont Abbey in the opening round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament. These results marked one of the most consistent and competitive campaigns for the program in its NCAA Division II era.
In Fall 2024, Emmanuel achieved the best overall and conference record in its NCAA Division II era, finishing 8–4–2 overall and 7–4–1 in Conference Carolinas play. The season also marked a historic milestone as the Lions hosted a Conference Carolinas Tournament match for the first time, welcoming Mount Olive in the opening round. The performance set new benchmarks for success at the Division II level and solidified Emmanuel’s competitive standing within the conference.
Prior to his tenure at Emmanuel, Starr served as head coach at Malone University, where he led the Pioneers to their first Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) playoff appearance and the program’s best record since 2011. He previously held head coaching positions at Sheridan College and Northeastern Junior College, guiding both programs to their first conference tournament or championship appearances. Starr holds a bachelor’s degree from Colorado Christian University and a master’s degree in Sport and Exercise Science with a concentration in Soccer Coaching from Ohio University.
