Lions Capture Dominate Win Over Warriors

CENTRAL, SC - The women's volleyball team beat Southern Wesleyan on the road on Tuesday night. The 3-0 win moves Emmanuel's record to 9-10 overall and 6-2 in league play.

A series of runs led to the Lions taking a commanding lead early in the match, 13-5. The Warriors could do little to answer as the Lions continued to dominate both offensively and defensively. Eventually they took the set by 14 points, 25-11.

The momentum continued for Emmanuel going into the second set as they opened with five consecutive points. The Lions reached a double-digit advantage by the middle of the set and never looked back, taking it 25-14.

SWU found their first burst of momentum of the night in the third set as they gained a 6-0 lead early on. The Warriors managed to maintain the advantage for awhile, but eventually the Lions came charging back. With the score tied at 19, a 6-2 run in favor of Emmanuel gave them the set, 25-22, and the match, 3-0.

Junior Gabi Reagan led the way for the Lions, recording 8 kills and an impressive hitting percentage of .500. Senior Mia Cotton and freshman Mari Roop followed with 6 kills each, both players hitting .400.

Additionally, sophomore Isabella Appling recorded a career high with 15 digs.

Next up, women's volleyball will head to the Tar Heel State to face Chowan on Friday and Barton on Saturday. First serve is slated for 7:00pm against the Hawks on Friday night.
