FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - The women's soccer team faced the Francis Marion Patriots at home on Saturday. The Lions shut out the Patriots, 2-0, for their first conference win of the year. The victory moves Emmanuel's record to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
The first 30 minutes of the game were a mundane back and forth as neither team could successfully advance the ball down field. However, in the 35th minute senior Moriah Logue got a ball from sister Zoe Logue. Moriah took a deep shot from outside the box and scored her second goal of the season, giving Emmanuel the lead, 1-0.
The back and forth exchange resumed in the second half as FMU battled to tie the score. But it was all Emmanuel as they scored again in the 71st minute. The goal came when junior Viki Lederer took the ball in the middle of the field and crossed to senior Rachel Wegesend, who quickly sent it back to Lederer as she scored her second goal of the season. The Patriots couldn't respond as the Lions won the game, 2-0.
Moriah Logue and Viki Lederer each recorded their second goal of the season for the Lions. Allie Windom recorded 4 saves in her first start at goalkeeper.
In the end, FMU finished with 10 shots, 4 of them on goal. Emmanuel took 8, 6 of them on goal.
Next up, women's soccer will head to North Carolina to face Belmont Abbey on Tuesday at 7:00pm.
