FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - The women's volleyball team hosted Francis Marion on Saturday afternoon. The Patriots continued their undefeated run in league play as they defeated the Lions, 3-0.
Emmanuel took a 4-1 lead early in the first set. However, it was short lived as FMU quickly tied the score at 6. The momentum proceeded to go back and forth until an ace from senior Victoria Alexander got the Lions within a point late in the set, 21-20. A 3-1 run by the Lions suddenly gave them the advantage, 23-22. But three consecutive attack errors for Emmanuel led to the Patriots taking the set, 25-23.
FMU scored the first three points of the second set, but Emmanuel responded by pulling the score even at 6. The momentum seesawed for awhile, but eventually it was the Patriots who had control, 21-19. The Lions managed to get to 22, but that was all they could do as the Patriots took the set by three points.
The third set was all Emmanuel early on as they built a four point lead, 9-5. But it was short lived as the Patriots cruised to a 9-1 run, quickly giving themselves a four point advantage. Emmanuel once again took control, scoring five consecutive times to regain the lead. However, the wild swings in momentum continued as the Patriots responded with a six point run, putting the Lions at a five point disadvantage that they couldn't recover from. FMU took the set, 25-21, and the match, 3-0.
Alaina Emminger led the way for the Lions with 11 kills along with a block and a dig. Aleksandra Hamuda followed with 9 kills, 5 digs, a pair of blocks and an ace.
Next up, women's volleyball will head to the volunteer state to face King University on Tuesday, October 5. First serve is slated for 7:00pm.
