SPARTANBURG, SC - The women's soccer team played their penultimate game of the regular season on Wednesday, facing the Converse Valkyries on the road. The Lions shutout the Valkyries, 1-0, moving their record to 5-9-1 (4-6-1 CC).
This was a big win for the Lions, as it moved them into a tie for 7th place in the league standings (top 8 make the playoffs). Saturday's senior day match against Mount Olive could determine our fate; come out and support!!
The Lions got 10 shots off in the first half, compared with 8 for the Valkyries. However, neither team was able to score, so the match was tied at zero heading into the half.
The second half continued to see a consistent number of shots taken by both teams, but it was Emmanuel in the 69th minute that put the only goal of the night on the board. Tenley Hanhadt was the one who put it away for the Lions, scoring her second goal of the season. Several more shots were taken, but none found their mark as Emmanuel won the match, 1-0.
Emmanuel ended the night with 17 shots taken, 6 of them on target. Converse took 14, 4 of them on goal.
Next up, women's soccer will host Mount Olive for senior day, this Saturday, October 30, at 1:30pm.
