FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - The women's soccer team hosted the Mount Olive Trojans on Saturday for senior day. The Trojans defeated the Lions, 5-1, guaranteeing UMO a number 1 seed in the playoffs as they went undefeated in conference play. The Lions are currently eighth, but their postseason bid will depend on Chowan beating King tomorrow afternoon.
The first 40 minutes of play were relatively uneventful as neither team could get much going offensively. In the 41st minute, the Lions committed a foul in their own box, giving the Trojans a penalty kick. UMO was able to convert the PK, making the score 1-0. Several minutes later, in the 44th minute, Emmanuel got a PK of their own. Emilia Dingwall was the one who took it, successfully converting in the right side of the goal. The pair of PK's were the only goals of the half, making the score 1-1 after 45 minutes.
10 minutes into the second half, the Trojans caught fire. They scored 4 goals in 18 minutes, giving themselves a comfortable lead. The Lions were unable to respond as UMO won the match, 5-1.
UMO took 19 shots, 7 on target, while Emmanuel took 7, 5 of them on goal.
