FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - The women's volleyball team swept the Erskine College Flying Fleet on Friday night. The victory moves Emmanuel's record to 8-10 overall and 5-2 in CC.
The Lions scored the first three points of the night and never looked back. The Fleet tried to make a move late in the set, but a pair of kills from senior Aleksandra Hamuda led to Emmanuel taking it by six, 25-19.
The second set was even more dominant than the first one for the Lions. They gained a large lead early on, 10-2. Hamuda scored seven times in the set, including the final point that gave it to Emmanuel by double digits, 25-15.
The third set began in similar fashion to the first two. Emmanuel controlled the pace and built a six point lead, 17-11. With the Lions leading 20-13, the Fleet put together their best run of the night, an 8-2 effort that gave them hope of extending the match. However, three kills in a row for senior Taylor Roberts put away the set, 25-22, and the match, 3-0.
Aleksandra Hamuda led the way for the Lions in a dominate performance, matching her career high of 18 kills and doing so in only three sets. Hamuda also recorded 8 digs. Mia Cotton followed with 7 kills.
Sophomore Gabrielle McGlamery finished with 34 assists, retaining her spot atop the conference stat sheet as she leads in assists per set.
Next up, women's volleyball will begin a road stretch as they face SWU for a conference matchup on Wednesday, October 13 at 7:00pm.
