DAHLONEGA, GA - The women's basketball team kicked off their 2021-22 campaign at the Conference Challenge Classic on Friday with a game against Young Harris. The Mountain Lions defeated the Lions, 71-57, moving Emmanuel's record to 0-1. 

With YHC leading 9-8 in the first quarter, the Mountain Lions scored 11 straight that set them up for a 9 point lead after 10 minutes of play, 20-11. Emmanuel outscored YHC in the second quarter by three points, but still trailed by six heading into halftime, 29-35. 

In the third quarter, Emmanuel got the score back within a point, 49-50. However, another nine point run for the Mountain Lions propelled them to a double digit lead, 59-49. The Lions were unable to make a comeback in the final 10 minutes, eventually losing the game by 14 points, 71-57. 

Junior Jazmin Allen was a bright spot for the Lions despite the loss, as she opened the season with a double-double that included 21 points and 12 rebounds, along with a pair of assists. Allen is the most prominent offense weapon returning from last season, and someone to keep an eye on as the year progresses. 

Next up, women's basketball will face the host school of the challenge, #6 North Georgia, tomorrow, November 13 at 2:00pm.
