FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - The women's basketball team hosted USC Aiken for their home opener on Wednesday night. The Pacers defeated the Lions, 78-51, moving Emmanuel's record to 0-3.
Aiken scored the first basketball of the game and never looked back, racing to an 8-1 lead. The Lions cut the deficit to three, but the Pacers were back to a seven point advantage by the end of the quarter, 16-9. Hot hands on the Pacer side made it difficult for the Lions to keep up in the second quarter. Aiken went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc, extending their lead well into double-digits by halftime, 44-21.
Aiken continued to outscore the Lions in the third quarter, matching their strong shooting with lock-down defense. The Lions battled to remain within striking distance, but the Pacers were able to hold them at bay. Every time the Lions gained momentum, Aiken slowed it by knocking down another three. When all was said and down the Pacers ended up on top by 27 points, 78-51.
Sophomore Sydney Wyatt led the way on offense for the Lions, recording 13 points and 4 rebounds. Junior Jazmin Allen followed with 10 points and 7 boards.
Next up, women's basketball will begin conference play by hosting Francis Marion on Saturday, November 20 at 2:00pm.
