FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - The women's basketball team hosted the UNC Pembroke Braves on Tuesday night. The Braves beat the Lions, 70-54, moving Emmanuel's record to 1-4 (1-1 CC).
The Braves got off to a hot start, scoring the first nine points of the night while locking the Lions down on defense. By the end of the first ten minutes the score was 23-12 in favor of UNCP. The Lions matched the Braves in the second quarter as both teams scored 17 points. However, the explosive first quarter from the Braves gave them a double-digit lead heading into halftime, 40-29.
Emmanuel also matched the pace in the third, but was unable to garner enough momentum to come from behind. After 30 minutes the Braves still led by 11 points, 55-44. Pembroke increased their advantage towards the end of the game, putting together a late run to seal their victory over Emmanuel, 70-53.
Junior Jazmin Allen led the way for the Lions, putting up 12 pounds while grabbing an impressive 13 boards. Junior Jeanetta Elder followed with 10 points and 4 rebounds.
Next up, women's basketball will enter a road stretch, beginning with Erskine on November 30 at 5:00pm.
