MOUNT OLIVE, NC - The women's basketball team faced Mount Olive on Saturday afternoon. The Trojans defeated the Lions, 63-54, moving Emmanuel's record to 2-9 (2-6 CC).
The Trojans got off to a hot start, jumping out to a 15-2 advantage seven minutes into the game. By the end of the first quarter UMO led by 14 points, 22-8. The Lions rebounded in the second quarter, out scoring the Trojans 14-8. However, they still trailed heading into halftime, 30-22.
The Trojans turned the heat on once more in the third, scoring 21 points. The Lions put up 14, leaving them in a 15 point deficit heading into the final ten minutes. Emmanuel rebounded once more in the fourth quarter, out scoring the Trojans again. However, despite cutting UMO's lead to eight thanks to a nine point run, the Lions were unable to recover from the Trojans' hot third quarter. UMO went on to win by 9 points, 63-54.
Junior Jeanetta Elder set the pace for the Lions, putting up a career-high 17 points while adding her second double-double in a row. Junior Jazmin Allen recorded 14 points and 5 boards.
Next up, women's basketball will be in Augusta on New Years Eve to face the Jags at 2:00pm.
