FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - Men's soccer hosted the Lees-McRae Bobcats on Tuesday night. The Bobcats defeated the Lions, 1-0, moving Emmanuel's record to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in conference.
In the first 15 minutes, the Bobcats controlled possession and managed to take seven shots. However, strong defensive play and some fantastic saves from freshman goalkeeper Rodrigo De La Terga prevented LMC from scoring. The rest of the half saw the Lions get off a handful of shots of their own, but none of them found the net as the teams went into halftime tied at zero.
The teams traded shots early in the second half. At the 60 minute mark, the crowd erupted when freshman Alexander Panner found the net for the Lions. However, the officials deemed him offsides and the goal didn't count. In the 82nd minute, it was the Bobcats who eventually put the first point on the board as Zach Aversano scored a goal. The Lions were unable to answer as LMC took the match, 1-0.
The Bobcats ended up taking 14 shots, half of them on goal. The Lions fired 10, with 2 on target.
Next up, men's soccer will host Francis Marion on Saturday, October 2 at 7:00pm.
