YOUNG HARRIS, GA - The men's soccer team played their season opener against Young Harris College on Sunday afternoon. The Lions fell to the Mountain Lions 0-6, moving their record to 0-1.
Young Harris set the pace early in the match, scoring their first goal in just the third minute. The Mountain Lions put another point on the board just 9 minutes later, increasing their lead to two. By the 17th minute, YHC scored their third goal of the first half to once again increase their lead.
In the second half, the Lions were able to fend off the Mountain Lions for 22 minutes, but YHC proceeded to add two goals in two minutes at the 77 and 79 minute marks. In the 86th minute YHC scored their sixth and final goal of the game as they defeated the Lions, 6-0.
Junior goalkeeper Giuliano Palma recorded 6 saves while Emmanuel's defense struggled in allowing 23 shots to be taken by YHC (13 on goal).
Emmanuel only managed to get one shot off over the course of the game, and it was taken by senior Derek Fournier.
Next up, men's soccer will head to Wilson, NC to begin conference play against Barton College.
