#8 seed Emmanuel Men's Soccer upsets #5 seed Mount Olive in first round of Conference Carolinas Championship

 

Mount Olive, NC --- #8 Emmanuel College Men's Soccer took on #5 University of Mount Olive in Mount Olive, NC for the first round of the Conference Carolinas Championship. 

Emmanuel came out looking punch their ticket to the second round of the Conference Carolinas Championship and upset a high seed University of Mount Olive. The first half of play would be an exciting matchup between these two teams. Emmanuel would put up 5 shots, 3 of which would be saved by the Trojans goalie, Alex Engren. The Trojans would put up 4 shots, two of which would be saved by Lion's goalie, Rodrigo De La Terga. The first half would remain quiet as both teams would head into the half tied 0-0.

The Lions came out looking to score and take the lead in the second half of play. Both teams would come hot in the second half putting up a total of 14 shots between the two teams. With less than 10 minutes left to play in the game, the crowd was sure this game would be sent overtime. The Lions however would score what could be the game winning goal at 81:30. Alexander Panner would pass and connect with Rafael Calderon putting the Lions up late 1-0. Just 5 minutes later, Emmanuel would tack on a reassurance goal. At 86:02, Alberto Hernandez Meca would pass and connect with Lucas Pollachi to score the final goal of the night putting the Lions up 2-0. This goal would seal the deal and after 90 minutes of play, the Lions would punch their ticket to round two of the Conference Carolinas playoffs. 

The Lions seed #8 will head to Murfreesboro, NC to face off against the #4 seed Chowan on Saturday, October 29th. The match is set to begin at 2:00pm.
