Women's Basketball loses in overtime to UNC Pembroke

Box Score Pembroke, NC - Emmanuel Women's Basketball team traveled to face off against UNC Pembroke on December 3, 2022.

Emmanuel comes into 1-3 overall after a tough loss to Newberry College. UNC Pembroke comes into this game with a record of 2-5 after a win against Francis Marion. The Lions and the Braves had a tight first quarter of play. The Lions went 6 for 14 from the field, 1 for 4 from the three and 3 for 4 from the free throw line. The Braves went 5 for 13 from the field and 2 for 4 from beyond the three. The Lions would matchup well against the Braves for the second quarter of play. The Lions would go 50% from the field and 42.86 % from beyond three. The Braves would go 42.86% from the field, 0% from beyond the three and 83.33% from the free throw line. The leading scorers for Emmanuel during the first half of play would be: Jazmine Allen (9pts), Sydney Wyatt(6pts), and Jeanetta Elder (6pts.) Macy Passmore, Maddie Futch, Abby. Crawford, Amia Brown, Makenzie Caldwell would also score to send the Lions into the half with the lead over the Braves, 33-29.

Emmanuel would dominate the third and hold the lead for 99% of the fourth quarter of play in hopes to take the lead and secure the victory over the Braves. The lady lions would get hot with 7 minutes of play left in the third quarter. They had put up on 0 points prior to their streaks of baskets. Sydney Wyatt would go on a streak as she would score the next 6 points for the Lions putting them up 44-38 with less than 4 minutes left in the third quarter. At the end of the third quarter of play, the Lions would still have the slight advantage, 46-40. The fourth quarter would be the most exciting yet as neither team would be able to take a great lead. The Lions would go on the board first early in the fourth quarter as Wyatt would sink a 3 to open the quarter. With under a minute to play in the game, the Lions would be up 63-54 over the Braves. The Braves would have their hot streak hit very late in the fourth quarter as they would score 7 points in just 18 seconds. With only 9 seconds left in the game, the lions would be up by 3. The only option for the Braves would be to attempt a 3 to send this game into overtime. With just one second left, the Braves would shoot a buzzer beater 3 and score the basket tying the game and sending it into overtime. 

Once again, Wyatt drains a 3 to open up the first quarter of overtime play for the Lions this season. The Braves however would once again find their hot streak and would score 9 points without the Lions scoring. After a good layup by Elder with less than 30 seconds of play, the Lions would be down by 6. the Lions would be forced to foul in hopes of a miss and a rebound, the braves would sink three of their four free throws giving them the victory 80-73 over the Lions.

The Lions will travel to Southern Wesleyan University to face off against the Braves in a Conference Carolinas matchup on December 7th. The game is set to begin at 5:00pm.
