Lions Close Out Narrow Victory Over Eagles, 8-7

LIVINGSTON, AL - The Emmanuel College Baseball team faced off against Carson-Newman University in a neutral site game at the University of West Alabama. Despite being down 1 run going into the 9th, the Lions rallied for an 8-7 victory, increasing their record to an overall 4-4. 
 
Simon Boggie started the game for the Lions on the mound, allowing 6 hits and 3 runs in the first 5 innings.
 
Emmanuel College started the game strong with 4 runs in the 3rd inning to go up 4-0. In the 3rd inning, Anthony Baez doubled, bringing Guy Anderberg home for a 1-0 lead. Cody Minnis singled to third base, bringing Baez home. Saint flied out to centerfield, bringing Smith home for a 3-0 lead. Jonathan Manibusan singled, brining Minnis home for the 4-0 lead. 
In the bottom of the third, Carson-Newman cut the lead to 4-1 as K. Daughtry grounded out, brining A. Carpenter home for a run. 
 
In the top of the 5th, Luke Patty singled up the middle, bringing Minnis home for a 5-1 lead. 
In the bottom of the 5th, G. Rickets doubled for Carson-Newman, brinigng A. Carpenter home to cut the lead to 5-2. K. Daughtry flied out of centerfield which brought M. Genter home, cutting Emmanuel's lead to 5-3. 
 
Hunter Ferguson took the mound in the 6th inning, allowing 2 hits and 2 runs. 
 
In the top of the 6th, Judd Robets hit a single-run homerun, extending the Lions lead to 6-3. 
In the bottom of the 6th, Cardinal-Newman responded as Z. Boze hit a 2-run homerun, cutting the lead to 6-5. 
 
Kyle Heuchert took the mound in the 7th, allowing 4 hits and 2 runs in 2 innings pitched. 
 
In the bottom of the 7th, M. Parkinson singled to right field, brining H. Travis home to tie the game 6-6. 
 
In the bottom of the 8th, H. Jackson doubled down the right field line, brining J. Griffin home and giving Cardinal-Newman their first lead up 7-6. 
 
In the top of the 9th, B. Campbell singled to left field, bringing Patty and Baez home to take the lead 8-7. 
 
Tyler Mayfield would close out the game from the mound for the Lions, shutting out Cardinal-Newman to take the victory. 
 
Emmanuel College will continue their season as they take on the University of West Alabama in Livingston, AL, on February 13th.
