Lions Close Out West Alabama Trip with 8-5 Victory

LIVINGSTON, AL - The Emmanuel College Baseball team faced off against the University of West Alabama in Livingston, Alabama. The Lions defeated UWA 8-5, increasing their overall record to 5-4. 
 
Colby Fields started the game for EC on the mound. Fields pitched 4 innings, allowing 5 hits and 4 runs. 
 
Emmanuel started from behind as C. Christian grounded out to SS, bringing home J. Bower for a 1-0 UWA lead in the 3rd inning. 
 
In the fifth inning, Smith walked, bringing home Judd Robberts for Emmanuel, tying the game 1-1. Cody Minnis singled on a bunt to first base, bringing home Guy Anderberg for a 2-1 lead. 
In the bottom of the 5th, UWA responded as J. Messina doubled down the right field line, sending B. Lyman and C. Christian home for a 3-2 lead. Shortly after, K. Volger flied out to right field, bringing home J. Messina home for a 4-2 lead. 
 
In the bottom of the 5th, Braden Henle took the mound for Fields. Henle pitched 1.2 innings, allowing 1 hit and 0 runs. 
 
Emmanuel responded with a 2-run inning in the 6th. Judd Roberts singled to the left, bringing Saint home, cutting the lead to 1 (3-4). Later in the inning, Guy Anderberg reached on a fielder's choice, brining Jonathan Manibusan home to tie the game 4-4. 
 
In the bottom of the 6th, Hunter Parks took over the mound for Henle. Parks pitched 2 innings, allowing 2 hits and 1 run. 
 
In the top of the 7th, B. Campbell reached on an error by the short stop, bringing Cody Minnis and Bryson Smith home, extending Emmanuel's lead to 6-5. 
In the bottom of the 7th, UWA responded as J. Nemith singled to the left side, brining C. Peeples home, cutting the lead to 6-5. 
 
In the 9th, Brody Campbell singled bringing Cody Minnis and Khalib Bayona home for an 8-5 lead. 
 
Clifford Brown successfully closed the game for Emmanuel, pitching 1.1 innings, allowing 2 hits and keeping UWA scoreless.  
 
The Men's Baseball team will continue their season as they compete at home against Anderson University on February 15th (Tuesday) at 2:00 PM.
