BANNER ELK, NC - The men's volleyball team headed to North Carolina to face the Lee's-McRae Bobcats on Friday night. The Lions completed a clean sweep of the Bobcats, 3-0. The win moves Emmanuel's record to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
The Lions scored the first two points of the opening set and never looked back. They led the whole way, never allowing the Bobcats to tie the score or take the lead. The 25-19 win came thanks to a hitting percentage of .318 as the Lions tallied 10 kills to just 3 errors.
The second set began as a more even exchange as the teams traded points. With Emmanuel leading 17-16, the Lions proceeded to turn on the heat, closing on an 8-3 run that gave them the set, 25-19.
With the third set tied 1-1, freshman Gustavo Cavalcanti recorded 4 aces in 5 serves, propelling the Lions into another lead they would never forfeit. Emmanuel went on to take the set by seven points, 25-18 while hitting .300 in the effort.
Gustavo Cavalcanti led the way for the Lions, recording 11 kills, 6 digs, 5 aces, and a block while hitting an impressive .600. Freshman Daniel Beachum finished with a career-high 6 blocks, while adding 5 kills in 9 attempts to hit .444.
Next up, men's volleyball will face King University on Saturday, February 12 at 2:00pm.
