Lions Complete Another Shutout in 1-1 Day

CLEVELAND, TN - The Emmanuel softball team continued the Lee University Invitational on Saturday. The Lions went 1-1, once again shutting out the host Flames, 6-0, but falling to Ohio Dominican, 0-10. This moves Emmanuel's record to 5-3 overall. 

Emmanuel vs Ohio Dominican:

Unfortunately, the Lions watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 10-0 loss to Ohio Dominican on Saturday. Ohio Dominican scored on a sacrifice fly by Downs and a single by Stevens in the first inning.

The Lions struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Ohio Dominican, giving up ten runs.

Ohio Dominican got things moving in the first inning, when Downs's sac fly scored the opening run. 

Long led things off on the rubber for Ohio Dominican. The fireballer lasted five innings, allowing four hits and zero runs while striking out six and walking zero.

Dani Fairey was on the rubber for the Lions. The lefty went three innings, allowing four runs on five hits, striking out one and walking zero. Kaleigh Fowler and Sydney Blackmon entered the game from the bullpen, throwing one inning each. 

Harder, Jewels Ayers, Lexi Jordan, and Kyna Cheney each managed one hit for Emmanuel. 

Shemwell led Ohio Dominican with three hits in three at bats.

Lee vs Emmanuel:

Madison Edwards threw a shutout to lead Emmanuel past Lee University 6-0.

The Lions pulled off the big victory without ever scoring more than two runs in an inning. The most they scored was two in the sixth.

The Lions got things started in the first inning when Lexi Jordan singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

Edwards led things off in the circle for the Lions. The pitcher lasted all seven innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out six.

Madison Barnett led things off in the pitcher's circle for Lee University. The hurler lasted six innings, allowing 13 hits and five runs while striking out three. Alaina Watson threw one inning in relief.

The Lions launched one home run on the day. Kyna Cheney went deep in the third inning. Emmanuel tallied 14 hits on the day. Chloe Nadler, Jaryn Gibson, Lexi Jordan, and Glory Thompson all managed multiple hits for the Lions. Gibson and Nadler each collected three hits to lead the way. Emmanuel was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Nadler had the most chances in the field with six.

Next up, Emmanuel softball will host a double header against Young Harris on Wednesday, February 16 starting at 1:00pm. Come out and support our ladies for their home opener!
