Lions Come From Behind to Sweep Mountain Lions in Home Opener

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – Emmanuel softball played a double-header on Wednesday afternoon against Young Harris for their 2022 home opener. The Lions swept the Mountain Lions, winning both games to move their record to 7-3 overall.
 
The Lions snatched the lead late in game one in a 5-2 victory over Young Harris. The game was tied at two with the Lions batting in the bottom of the fifth when Ellee Varner singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
 
Dani Fairey led things off in the pitcher's circle for the Lions. The lefty lasted seven innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out two and walking one.
 
Dixon started the game for Young Harris. The Mountain Lion allowed seven hits and five runs over four and a third innings, striking out three.  #17 threw one and two-thirds innings in relief.
 
Chloe Nadler led the Lions with two hits in three at bats.  Emmanuel was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Gabby Buffington made the most plays with six.
 
Chappell went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Young Harris College in hits
 
 
The Lions once again stole the lead late and defeated Young Harris 5-4 in game two. The Lions trailed 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Chloe Nadler singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs.
 
Young Harris College got things started in the second inning when Miller homered on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs.
 
The Lions knotted the game up at three in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Jewels Ayers drove in two when she singled.
 
The Lions tallied three runs in the fourth inning.  The offensive onslaught was led by Abby Rocco and Jewels Ayers, both sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
 
Kaitlyn Pickens led things off in the pitcher's circle for the Lions. The righty allowed six hits and three runs over three and a third innings, striking out seven and walking one.
 
Ferguson was in the pitcher's circle for Young Harris College. Ferguson surrendered three runs on eight hits over three and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking one.  #21 threw two and a third innings in relief.
 
The Lions scattered ten hits in the game. Nadler and Glory Thompson managed multiple hits for The Lions.  Nadler went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the way.
 
Chappell led Young Harris College with three hits in three at bats.
Next up, Emmanuel softball will face Limestone University on Friday, February 19 at 1:00pm.
