Lions Go 1-1 on Friday as Fairey Completes Shutout Against Flames

CLEVELAND, TN – The Emmanuel softball team finished day one of the Lee University Invitational on Friday. The Lions went 1-1 as Fairey shut out the Lee University Flames in game one (3-0), before a walk-off homer by Ohio Dominican caused Emmanuel to fall in game two, 8-9. Splitting the games moves Emmanuel's record to 4-2 overall.

Lee vs Emmanuel:
Dani Fairey didn't allow a single run against Lee University, throwing a complete game shutout and leading the Lions to a 3-0 victory on Friday.
 
The pitching was strong on both sides. Fairey struck out seven, while Nyah Vogel sat down ten for the Flames. One bright spot for Lee University was a single by Taylor De Adder in the first inning. Fairey got the win for the Lions. The southpaw lasted seven innings, allowing five hits and zero runs while striking out seven and walking one.
 
Vogel took the loss for Lee University. The hurler surrendered three runs on four hits over seven innings, striking out ten and walking zero.
 
Jaryn Gibson, Chloe Nadler, Glory Thompson, and Mackensie Hogan each managed one hit to lead the Lions. Alexa Scalzo led Lee University with two hits in three at bats.
 
Emmanuel vs Ohio Dominican:
A walk-off left the Lions on the wrong end of a 9-8 defeat to Ohio Dominican on Friday. Ohio Dominican trailed 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Mcdonnel homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
 
Despite the loss, the Lions did collect 13 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Ohio Dominican had eight hits on the way to victory.
 
In the first inning, Emmanuel got their offense started when an error scored one run for the Lions. Ohio Dominican evened things up at seven in the bottom of the sixth inning when an error scored one run for them.
 
The Lions notched three runs in the sixth inning. Emmanuel's big inning was driven by a single from Mackensie Hogan and a groundout by Lexi Jordan.
 
Ohio Dominican scored four runs in the fifth inning. The big inning for Ohio Dominican came thanks to a single by Stevens and an error on a ball put in play by Downs.
 
Kaitlyn Pickens was in the circle for the Lions. Pickens went four and a third innings, allowing six runs on three hits and striking out five. Madison Edwards and Kaleigh Fowler entered the game as relief, throwing one and one-third innings and two-thirds of an inning respectively.
Ohio Dominican launched two home runs on the day. Shemwell went yard in the first inning. Mcdonnel went for the long ball in the seventh inning.
 
The Lions totaled 13 hits in the game. Kyna Cheney, Abby Rocco, Mackensie Hogan, and Brighton Harder each collected two hits to lead the Lions.
 
Softball will continue play at the Lee University Invitational with a double header on Saturday, February 12.
