Lady Lions Cruise Past Bobcats, 80-61

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - The women's basketball team hosted the Lees-McRae Bobcats on Friday night. The Lions defeated the Bobcats, 80-61. The victory moves Emmanuel's record to 7-13 overall and 7-10 in league play.

The Lions outscored the Bobcats by a possession in the first quarter, 16-13. They shot 33% from the field (4 of 12) and 25% from three (1 of 4). In the second quarter the Lions built a 9 point lead, 36-27. However, a scoreless final two minutes for Emmanuel saw the Bobcats charge all the way back, closing out the half with a three pointer to tie the score at 36.

Emmanuel proceeded to produce a dominate third quarter, out scoring the Bobcats 28-10 to take a commanding lead, 64-46. The run included a pair of three pointers by senior Allison Smith while the Lions went 9 of 18 from the field (50%). Emmanuel also scored eight points from the free throw line, converting on 80% of their attempts. Free throw shooting ended up being a key statistic for the Lions as they would end the night with 30 points from the charity stripe in 39 attempts (76.9%). A strong performance in the fourth quarter was enough for the Lions to walk away with a 19 point victory, 80-61.

Sophomore Sydney Wyatt led the Emmanuel offense, posting 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists. Junior Jazmin Allen recorded her 10th double-double of the season, finishing with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Junior Jeanetta Elder ended the night with 19 points, 6 boards, 2 blocks, and a pair of assists.

Next up, women's basketball will have their senior day, celebrating Lexie Sengkhammee and Allison Smith, at 2:00pm on Saturday, February 12 vs King University.
