BRISTOL, TN - The women's basketball team played the King University Tornado on Monday evening. The Lions blitzed the Tornado, 70-47, moving Emmanuel's record to 9-13 overall and 9-10 in league play.
The game started off close in the first quarter. The Lions shot 38% (7-18) from the field and went 1 of 4 from beyond the arc. By the end of ten minutes Emmanuel was on top by just three points, 15-12. The second quarter would ultimately be the deciding factor in the game. The Lions caught fire on offense while shutting down the Tornado on defense. 60 perfect shooting from the field (9-15) was enough for the Lions to build a 22 point advantage. A last second three pointer for the Tornado got them back within 19 points, but Emmanuel still led by 19 at the break (38-19).
An unspectacular but steady second half was all Emmanuel needed to capture the victory. The Tornado were unable to build the momentum necessary to make a charge as the Lions went on to win by 23 points, 70-43.
Double-double machine Jazmin Allen led the way for Emmanuel with 21 points and 12 rebounds. She added 2 assists and 2 steals to the effort. Sydney Wyatt and Reyonna Hopkins followed with 12 points each.
Next up, women's basketball will face Southern Wesleyan University on Wednesday, February 16 at 5:00pm.
