Warriors Edge Out Lions

CENTRAL, SC - The Emmanuel College Women's Basketball team traveled to Central, SC, to compete against conference opponent Southern Wesleyan University. Due to a low scoring 2nd quarter from the Lions, they were defeated 64-68, moving their record to 9-14 (9-11 CC). 
 
The Lions had a good start to the night, leading SWU 24-20 at the end of the 1st quarter. However, the Lions scored only 9 points in the 2nd quarter compared to SWU's 22. At the half, the Lions trailed by 10 points (43-33). SWU got off to a fast start to the half, earning their highest lead of 14 over Emmanuel with 6:24 left in the 3rd quarter. Emmanuel went on a 6-1 run in the final minutes of the quarter, cutting the deficit to 7 points. Emmanuel continued to cut at SWU's lead, finding themselves down by 2 (57-59) with 5:27 left in the game. After two crucial shots from Sydney Wyatt, the Lions were up 2 points with 3:14 remaining. However, SWU finished the game on a 7-1 run, defeating Emmanuel 68-64. 
 
Emmanuel shot 41.4% (24-58) as a team from the field. They shot 37.5% (6-16) from behind the 3 point line and 76.9% (10-13) at the free-throw line. They put up an impressive defensive performance, earning 21 points off turnovers. Most of the Lions production came from under the basket, scoring 32 points in the paint. 
 
Jeanetta Elder recorded a double-double, scoring 11 points with 11 rebounds. Jazmin Allen put up 19 points, leading the way offensively. Allen also recorded 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Sydney Wyatt scored 12 points with 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Allison Smith scored 11 points. Lexi Sengkhammee scored 7 points with 3 assists. 
 
The Lions will continue their season as they travel to Florence, SC, to compete against Francis Marion University on February 19th (Sat) at 2:00pm.
