Lions Remain Second in CC After Big Win Over Warriors

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - The Emmanuel College Men's Basketball team competed in their last home game of the regular season against conference opponent Southern Wesleyan University. Boosted by a high scoring first half, the Lions defeated the Warriors 80-53. 
 
Emmanuel took a quick lead in the first half, finding themselves up by 15 points with 12:16 remaining in the half. As the half continued, Emmanuel extended their lead over Southern Wesleyan University to 23 points (35-12) with 4:40 remaining in the half. Southern Wesleyan finished the half on a 9-5 run, cutting Emmanuel's lead to 18. Emmanuel began the 2nd half just as strong as the first, recording their largest lead of 37 (76-39) with 5:37 left in the game. While Southern Wesleyan would cut at the deficit at the end of the game, the Lions lead was too large. Emmanuel finished the game winning 80-53. 
 
The Lions had an impressive night on the stat sheet, shooting an impressive 57.1% (28-49) from the floor. They shot 39.1% (9-23) from behind the 3-point line. They had a good night from behind the free-throw line, shooting 83.3% (15-18). The bench proved to be an important factor in Emmanuel's win tonight, accounting for 30 of the team's points. The team showed an impressive defensive performance, scoring 17 points off turnovers. 
 
A few Lions put up some impressive individual statistics in tonight's game as well. KJ Jones II led the team with a double-double, scoring 21 points and recording 12 rebounds. Jones also finished the night with 5 assists. Brandon Simpson followed Jones with 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Off the bench, Jasper Gibson scored 12 points, going 4-7 from the field. Tyonn Stuckey scored 9 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist. Michael Wright scored 9 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist. 
 
Tonight's win moves the Lions record to 17-6 (16-3 CC). They will continue their season as they compete against Southern Wesleyan University in Central, SC, on February 16th (Wed) at 7:00 PM.
