Lions Sweep Home Doubleheader Against Mars Hill

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel softball team hosted Mars Hill University for a doubleheader on Saturdya afternoon. The Lions swept the series, moving their record to 10-4 on the season.
 
Game 1:
The Lions got out to a four-run lead in the fourth inning and held on for a 4-3 victory over Mars-Hill in the opening matchup. Mars-Hill University scored three runs on a home run in the fifth inning.
 
The Lions earned the victory despite allowing Mars Hill University to score three runs in the fifth inning. Mars-Hill University scored its runs on a home run by Alicia Wittenhagen.
 
Madison Edwards was in the pitcher's circle for the Lions. The pitcher lasted seven innings, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out nine and walking zero.
 
Marissa Adame toed the rubber for Mars-Hill University. The pitcher went three innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out four. Deja Smith threw three innings out of the bullpen.
 
The Lions smacked one home run on the day. Lexi Jordan went for the long ball in the second inning.
 
Jordan led the Lions with two hits in three at bats.
 
Mars Hill University racked up seven hits. Micki Maxson and Sydney Craig all managed multiple hits for Mars-Hill University. Mars-Hill University didn't commit a single error in the field. Wittenhagen had six chances in the field, the most on the team.
 
Game 2:
Lexi Jordan had a busy day at the plate in game two, smacking four hits in Emmanuel's 10-5 victory over Mars Hill. Jordan doubled in the first, doubled in the third, doubled in the fourth, and singled in the fifth.
 
The Lions earned the victory despite allowing Mars Hill University to score five runs in the fourth inning. Mars Hill big bats were led by Zoie Pistel, Sydney Craig, Micki Maxson, Alicia Wittenhagen, and Alyssa Christopher, who all drove in runs.
 
The Lions got on the board in the first inning. Jordan drove in one when she doubled.
 
Emmanuel pulled away for good with five runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Jordan doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs, Chloe Nadler singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, and Jaryn Gibson doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
 
Dani Fairey led things off in the circle for the Lions. The pitcher lasted three innings, allowing two hits and three runs while striking out five.
 
Kayla Gallagher was on the rubber for Mars Hill. The bulldog surrendered six runs on nine hits over three innings, striking out three and walking one. Marissa Adame and Deja Smith entered the game from the bullpen, throwing one and two-thirds innings and one and one-third innings respectively.
 
The Lions tallied 14 hits in the game. Jordan, Nadler, Lily Shelton, and GIibson each managed multiple hits for the Lions. Lexi Jordan led the way with four hits in four at bats.
 
Mars Hill University tallied eight hits. Maegan Blair and Craig each racked up multiple hits.
 
Next up, Emmanuel Softball will enter a road stretch beginning at Tusculum University on Tuesday, February 22nd.
