GREENVILLE, TN - The Emmanuel softball team won the first leg of their scheduled double-header before getting rained out for the second on Tuesday. The 8-6 victory over the Tusculum University Pioneers moves Emmanuel to 11-4 on the season.
The Lions opened up scoring in the top of the third, when Jaryn Gibson doubled to give Lexi Jordan a run. A huge fifth inning resulted in five runs for the Lions, giving them a 6-2 lead. Chloe Nadler, Lily Shelton, and Gabby Buffington all posted RBIs during the stretch, while Mackenzie Hogan drove two home when she doubled down the left field line.
Ally Harris had a 2 RBI hit of her own in the top of the sixth, increasing Emmanuel's lead, 8-2. An explosive bottom of the seventh for the Pioneers resulted in four runs, but the last ditch effort wasn't enough as Emmanuel went on to win, 8-6.
Dani Fairey recorded the win on the mound for the Lions, going 4 innings before Kaitlyn Pickens came in for relief. Both pitchers allowed four hits and recorded one strikeout each. Fairey gave up two runs while Pickens gave up four.
Next up, Emmanuel softball will head to Greenwood, SC for the Bearcat/Fleet Invitational, this Friday and Saturday (Feb. 25-26).
