Lions Take Down Cobras and Railsplitters After Extra Innings

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GREENWOOD, SC – The Emmanuel softball team began the Bearcat/Fleet Invitational on Friday in Greenwood, South Carolina. The Lions were perfect on the day, defeating Coker and Lincoln Memorial to move our record to 13-4 on the season.
 
 
Emmanuel vs Coker:
Both teams were strong on the rubber in the first game of the afternoon, but ultimately the Lions defeated Coker 3-1. Madison Edwards allowed just two hits, recording a dominant performance on the mound for Emmanuel. Edwards led things off in the pitcher's circle and went all seven innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out nine and walking zero.
 
Isabelle Mullen led things off in the circle for Coker. The bulldog went two and two-thirds innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out three and walking zero. Brandi Davis and Jordyn Goodmen entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two and two-thirds innings and one and two-thirds innings respectively.
 
Lily Shelton led the Lions with two hits in three at bats. Emmanuel tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Emmanuel was also sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Shelton had the most chances in the field with nine.
 
 
Emmanuel vs Lincoln Memorial:
The Lions snagged a late lead in extra innings and defeated Lincoln Memorial 3-1 in Friday's final matchup. The game was tied at one with the Lions batting in the top of the ninth when Glory Thompson singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.
 
The pitching was strong on both sides. Dani Fairey struck out three, while Hayley Tamaro sat down four.
 
The Lions got things started in the first inning. Ally Harris hit into a fielder's choice, scoring one run. In the bottom of the second inning, Lincoln Memorial tied things up at one. Kelsie Tuggle hit a solo homer.
 
Fairey toed the rubber for the Lions. The southpaw surrendered one run on eight hits over nine innings, striking out three and walking one.
 
Tamaro was in the circle for Lincoln Memorial. Tamaro allowed six hits and two runs over nine innings, striking out four.
 
Lexi Jordan led the Lions with two hits in four at bats. Emmanuel didn't commit a single error in the field. Chloe Nadler had the most chances in the field with six.
 
Emmanuel softball will continue tournament play with a two-game slate on Saturday against Georgia Southwestern (1pm) and Carson Newman (8pm).
