Lions Lose 14 Inning Battle with Trojans

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel Baseball team began a three game home series against Mount Olive on Friday evening. After a grueling 14 innings, the Trojans came out on top, 3-1, moving Emmanuel's record to 7-9 overall and 1-3 in conference play. 
 
The game was tied at one with Mount Olive batting in the top of the fourteenth when an error scored a run for the Trojans, ultimately leading to the victory when the Lions couldn't answer in the bottom of the inning.
 
The pitching was strong on both sides. University of Mount Olive pitchers struck out 20, while Emmanuel sat down 11.
 
Mount Olive got on the board in the first inning. Gordon Pihl grounded out, scoring one run.

Emmanuel knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the seventh inning, when Yeshua Saint grounded out, scoring one run.
 
Jake Denham started the game for Emmanuel. The lefty lasted six and two-thirds innings, allowing six hits and one run while striking out five. Dawson Gause started the game for Mount Olive. The pitcher surrendered one run on four hits over six and a third innings, striking out eight.

Caleb Irwin earned the victory on the mound for Mount Olive. The righthander allowed three hits and zero runs over six and two-thirds innings, striking out ten. Jonathan Peacock threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Peacock recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Mount Olive.

Hunter Parks took the loss for Emmanuel. The pitcher lasted two-thirds of an inning, allowing one hit and two runs while striking out one and walking one.
 
Emmanuel collected eight hits on the day. Luke Patty and Judd Roberts each managed multiple hits for the Lions. Patty went 3-for-6 at the plate to lead the way.
 
Mount Olive collected nine hits. Cooper George and Vito Patierno all managed multiple hits for the Trojans. Mount Olive didn't commit a single error in the field. Joseph Barberio had 21 chances in the field, the most on the team.
 
Emmanuel and Mount Olive will resume the series with a doubleheader beginning at noon on Saturday.
