Trojans Complete Doubleheader Sweep Against Lions

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel Baseball team concluded their three game series with Mount Olive with a doubleheader on Saturday. The Trojans defeated the Lions in both games, moving Emmanuel's record to 7-10 overall and 1-4 in league play.
 
Game 1:
Emmanuel opened up scoring in the first inning, when Zachary Bergstrom drew a walk, scoring one run.
 
Mount Olive knotted the game up at two in the top of the third inning, when Jack Casbarro homered on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs. The Trojans pulled away for good with two runs in the fourth inning when Cooper George singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run and Joseph Barberio laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run.
 
Emmanuel scored three runs in the sixth inning. Emmanuel big bats were led by Yeshua Saint and Dustin Frost, who both drove in runs in the frame.
 
Mount Olive scored three runs in the fifth inning. Joshua Jones and George each had RBIs in the frame, leading to a 9-5 victory for the Trojans.
 
Hunter Stevens earned the win for University of Mount Olive. The righty went five innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out ten. Jonathan Peacock and Justin Koehler entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
 
Simon Boggie took the loss for Emmanuel. The righty lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing six hits and six runs while striking out three.
 
Emmanuel scattered ten hits in the game. Guy Anderberg, Dobbs Bowden, Bergstrom, and Luke Patty all managed multiple hits for Emmanuel. Patty, Bergstrom, Bowden, and Anderberg each collected two hits to lead Emmanuel. Emmanuel was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Frost had the most chances in the field with nine.
 
Game 2:
Emmanuel watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 13-3 loss on the backend of the doubleheader. Mount Olive took the lead on a home run in the first inning.
 
Emmanuel struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing University of Mount Olive, giving up 13 runs.
 
Erik Johnson took the win for Mount Olive. The pitcher went five innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out four. Seth Nightingale, Jay Mckenzie, and Cole Newgaard all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory.
 
Colby Feilds took the loss for Emmanuel. The pitcher went four innings, allowing nine runs on seven hits and striking out one.
Dobbs Bowden led Emmanuel with two hits in four at bats.
 
Next up, Emmanuel Baseball will host Lee University on Wednesday, March 2 at 3:00pm.
