Lions Hold Off Flames for 7-6 Victory

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel baseball team hosted the Lee University Flames on Wednesday. The Lions defeated the Flames, 7-6, moving Emmanuel's record to 8-11 on the season.
 
Emmanuel got things moving in the first inning. Brody Campbell drove in one when he doubled. Emmanuel tallied three runs in the fourth inning. Luke Patty had an RBI triple in the inning to lead the run scoring.
 
Despite seeing their six-run lead whittled down by the end, Emmanuel still held off Lee for a 7-6 victory. Lee University scored six runs in the failed comeback on a single by Joshua Perez in the fifth, a fielder's choice by Dylan Standifer in the fifth, a error in the fifth, a single by Thomas Zazzaro in the sixth, and a groundout by Matthew Batts in the eighth.
 
Ryan Smith was the winning pitcher for Emmanuel. The pitcher went four and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on six hits and striking out two. A number of pitchers entered the game as relief, with Braden Henle, Kyle Heuchert, Trey Campbell, and Hunter Ferguson all securing outs and ultimately the victory. Heuchert recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Emmanuel.
 
Greyson Linderman took the loss for Lee. The pitcher allowed five hits and four runs over two innings, walking zero.
 
Emmanuel collected eight hits on the day. Patty, Guy Anderberg, and Khalib Bayona each had multiple hits for Emmanuel. Patty went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Emmanuel in hits.
 
Next up, the Lions head to Belmont Abbey for a weekend conference series against the Crusaders. First pitch is slated for 2:00pm on Friday.
