Lions Defeat Hurricanes in 9th Inning Walk-off

GREENWOOD, SC – Emmanuel softball faced another long day on the diamond at the Bearcat/Fleet Invitational on Saturday. A thrilling nine-inner in game one resulted in a walk-off victory over Georgia Southwestern. Carson-Newman defeated the Lions in game two. The split moves Emmanuel's record to 14-5 on the season. 
 
Emmanuel vs Georgia Southwestern:
The Lions defeated GSU 10-9 in game one thanks to a walk-off RBI by Lexi Jordan. The game was tied at nine with the Lions batting in the bottom of the ninth when Jordan singled on a 2-2 count, scoring the game-winning run.
 
The base paths were crowded in this high-scoring game. The Lions collected nine hits and Georgia Southwestern had eight.
 
In the first inning, GSU got their offense started when Katelyn Wood singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run.
 
The Lions scored four runs in the fourth inning. Nadler and Ally Harris both drove in runs in the frame.
 
Georgia Southwestern scored three runs in the fifth inning. The offensive firepower by Georgia Southwestern was led by Jacie Johns, Wood, and Haliey Pinette, all driving in runs in the inning.
 
With the Lions facing a 6-7 disadvantage in the bottom of the seventh, Brighton Harder recorded an inside the park homer to send the game into extra innings.
 
After Georgia Southwestern scored one run in the top of the eighth, the Lions answered with one of their own. The Lions then answered once more when Chloe Nadler's sac fly scored another run
 
Kaitlyn Pickens led things off in the circle for the Lions. The righthander went two and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on five hits, striking out three and walking zero.
 
Hannah Holloway was on the rubber for Georgia Southwestern. The bulldog surrendered four runs on four hits over four innings, striking out three and walking one. Regan Lee threw four and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.
 
The Lions tallied two home runs on the day. Brighton Harder had a long ball in the seventh inning. Harris had a homer in the fourth inning.
 
Harder went 2-for-5 at the plate to lead the Lions in hits. Emmanuel was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Nadler made the most plays with six.
 
Georgia Southwestern had eight hits in the game, versus Emmanuel's nine.
 
 
Emmanuel vs Carson Newman:
Carson Newman got things started in the first inning. Macey Hughes homered on a 3-1 count, scoring three runs.
 
In the top of the second inning, the Lions tied things up at three when Brighton Harder singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.
 
Carson Newman pulled away for good with three runs in the third inning. 
 
Sara King was credited with the victory for Carson Newman . The ace allowed seven hits and four runs over five innings, striking out one.
 
Sydney Blackmon took the loss for Lions. The lefthander went three innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, striking out one and walking zero.
 
The Lions totaled seven hits in the game. Harder went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lions in hits.
 
Carson Newman racked up 13 hits on the day.
 
Next up, Emmanuel Softball will face Augusta University on Wednesday, March 2 at 1:00pm.
